Already fully qualified but would like to achieve NHS qualification and experience?
The NHS Certificate in complementary therapies for those already trained to level 3 minimum. Offered in Cancer, Occupational Health or Maternity pathways.
To enrol onto the programme simply purchase the course on the booking page. You will be required to demonstrate evidence of your qualification which must include anatomy and physiology, insurance and full membership of a professional body. Once we have approved your application you will be required to undergo a DBS clearance check.
Day one (induction) will cover aspects of safe practice within the NHS, ethical health care, data collection and patient management. You will then be enrolled onto an e-learning programme to complete training and assessment in safeguarding, data protection, clinical governance, infection control and health and safety. Once all assessments are completed we will work with you to develop a programme of supervised practice within Harrogate NHS Trust and allied health services. This will incorporate 100 hours of clinical practice, tutorials and clinical supervision. The practice placements must be completed within 6 months of induction and may take place in a number of settings relevant to the speciality you have chosen.
You will be allocated a clinical supervisor with qualifications and experience in both your chosen complementary therapy and the related health care area of speciality.
Day two (half day pathway specific red flag session) Red flags are symptoms that may indicate that a patient has a serious complication which if left untreated may cause significant harm or be life threatening. Red flag symptoms must be recognised early by health care practitioners, this includes Complementary Therapists, where their role allows them access to our most vulnerable patients. During the half day session prior to commencing your NHS Certificate Placement, you will learn to understand the relevance of the red flag symptoms within your chosen speciality and understand the exact actions you must take should you become aware of such problems.
